Teaching Artist & Director

Home: Welcome

BIOGRAPHY

As a military kid, Martha Grace spent much of her childhood traveling with her family, and discovered an early and personal interest in the benefits of theatre for students. Participating in many drama groups in different places allowed her to experience first hand the power that theatre has to connect communities and provide a platform for young people to express themselves. She has been passionately pursuing a career as a theatre educator ever since.

Martha Grace graduated from Centre College of Kentucky in 2014 with her B.A. in Dramatic Arts. She spent a year at Lexington Children's Theatre as a Resident Professional Intern for Education before moving to the Washington, D.C. area where she worked as a teaching artist and director. She moved to Boston, MA in 2018 to pursue a graduate degree. In December 2019, Martha Grace received her M.A. in Theatre Education from Emerson College, and her Massachusetts certification to teach K-12 Drama. She also holds a K-12 teaching license for Theater in Virginia. Martha Grace currently teaches Technical Theatre Appreciation at Irving Middle School in Springfield, VA.

"I really like how you often ask how each person is feeling that day, and you're very conscious of different people's moods each class. I feel this is very helpful in middle school and you're the only teacher I know who does it."

7th Grade Student

"I really like how when we don't understand something you explain it in a different way. I like how you are a funny and nice teacher."
